Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has entrusted an important portfolio to Special Assistant Irfan Qadir. Irfan Qadir was appointed Special Assistant for Accountability and Interior. According to media reports, a notification for the appointment of Irfan Qadir was also issued after the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Irfan Qadir as Special Assistant for Accountability and Internal Affairs effective October 7, 2022.
It is to be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed senior lawyer Irfan Qadir as Special Assistant. According to a notification issued by the cabinet department, Irfan Qadir's status is equal to that of a federal minister, but the prime minister has not entrusted any portfolio to the special assistant. It may be recalled that earlier, former State Bank Governor Tariq Bajwa was appointed as Special Financial Assistant, whose notification was also issued.
Tariq Bajwa's position will be equivalent to a minister of state. With the appointment of Tariq Bajwa, the strength of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's cabinet increased to 75. The number of Special Assistants to the Prime Minister reached 29, with 8 new Special Assistants to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also appointed on 13 September. Notification Accordingly, Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, Maher Irshad Ahmad Khan, Raza Rabbani Khar, Mahesh Kumar, Faisal Karim Kundi and Sardar Saleem Haider have been appointed as Special Assistants to the Prime Minister.
Tasneem Qureshi and Muhammad Ali Shah were also appointed as Special Assistants to the Prime Minister. Former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser criticized the ruling coalition and said that after increasing the number of special assistants in the imported and incompetent government's cabinet, the number has increased to 75. The current cabinet has 34 ministers, 6 advisers and 28 to 29 special assistants. Most of them have no ministry. The former Speaker of the National Assembly said the economy is in decline, petrol prices and inflation are on the rise and they have no time off from luxuries.
