Members from South Punjab decided to stay with their party. PDM planned an internal change in Punjab after the by-elections.

As per the plan, the in-house redevelopment in Punjab was to be completed in 3 phases. In the first stage, a motion of no confidence in the chairman was to be submitted. In the second phase, a motion of no confidence in the vice president was to be submitted. If successful, the current session of the Punjab Assembly was to be adjourned indefinitely. In the third phase, the Governor of Punjab asked the Chief Minister for a vote of confidence. PDM's desire for internal change remained unfulfilled after the unexpected results in the by-elections.
