The statement about not sending the Indian team to Pakistan is "unfair", Jay Shah should have at least called Rameez Raj and discussed it.
The reaction to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah's announcement not to visit Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup continues. Former national team captain Wasim Akram says if Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah wanted to make such a statement, he should have at least called and spoken to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Rameez Raja. I should have said Jay Shah's statement was "unfair".
The former fast bowler said that Jay Shah should have called a meeting of the Asian Council and discussed it there as the rights to host the Asia Cup had been granted by the Council in which all members were present.
He said in a local media channel program that India cannot dictate how Pakistan should play its cricket, after 10 to 15 years of waiting, teams have finally started visiting Pakistan.
Wasim Akram said that I am a former cricketer, I don't know what is happening on the political front, but it is very important that people stay connected through sports. Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked for an emergency meeting to make a statement from the Asian Cricket Council president, while the PCB chairman responded by saying that Australia and England teams had visited Pakistan. While the New Zealand team will be touring at the end of this year, India is needlessly making excuses about security.
A PCB spokesperson said that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, then there may be uncertainty over Pakistan's participation in the World Cup scheduled in India and ICC events scheduled from 2024 to 2031.
